Chasing Water Play
This photo captures Sydney’s pure delight whenever she’s near water—a simple joy that means everything to our family. But behind the smiles is the real story of our recent Carnival Cruise: despite promises of autism-friendly support, we faced unexpected barriers and disappointments. On the cruise, we discovered (along with other families) that children who aren’t potty trained weren’t allowed in the water park—even on the splash pad. This policy was technically disclosed, but not clearly communicated ahead of time, despite our many calls to customer service before the trip.

Our journey wasn’t easy, but it reminded us to trust our instincts and create our own moments of joy—even when the experience falls short of what’s promised. We hope our story helps other families navigate sensory-friendly travel with open eyes and empowered hearts.
